HOW TO CLEAN CARPETS: NATURAL PRODUCTS FOR EXCELLENT RESULTS

Cleaning carpets individually, at home, taking professional effects is pleasant! Using natural elements, with a little patience and some targeted makeup, you can thoroughly wash the carpets of any room in the house in an effective, natural and economical way.

A touch of colour for your home, a perfectly safe play area for your children, a decorative piece of furniture. The rugs are functional and beautiful to look at, but they require periodic and careful maintenance because they can become a receptacle for bacteria, mites and dust.

In order not to be forced to spend a fortune in the laundry on a cyclical basis and to be sure of using ecological and natural products, Hobart Clean masters bring some amazing carpet cleaning tips for homeowners, let’s find out together how to clean carpets without damaging them!

HOW TO CLEAN CARPETS AT HOME AND NATURALLY

Whether they are antique or modern, simple or with rich and colourful decorations, made of natural or synthetic fibres, the time comes for all carpets to be cleaned and sanitized. Retailers recommend dry cleaning, but chemicals used in laundries or commercially available are harmful to health and the environment.

So if you are wondering how to dry clean carpets, know that just a few and very natural ingredients are enough:

  • White wine vinegar
  • bicarbonate
  • coarse salt
  • cornstarch
  • essential oil (to perfume)

Each of these products can be used alone or in combination with the others for a complete carpet cleaning. Sanitizing, removing stains and renewing colours will no longer be a problem, thanks to these easy-to-find, natural and non-aggressive ingredients, which do not harm the little four-legged friends with whom we share the home.

HOW TO WASH CARPETS: METHODS AND TRICKS

For ordinary and frequent carpet washing, start by turning the carpet upside down and vacuuming the back to remove dirt, dust and crumbs that nestle under the carpet. Then turn it over again and dust with baking soda, helping to distribute it over the entire surface with a soft-bristled brush.

The advice is to let the product act as much as possible, before removing it with the vacuum cleaner. By cleaning your carpets often, they will always be clean and deodorized.

For a more thorough wash, to be done more rarely, mix 2 glasses of white vinegar with three tablespoons of baking soda in a litre of water. Put the liquid thus obtained in a spray bottle and distribute the product on the carpet. Brush gently to remove any stains and allow to dry away from sunlight to avoid discolouring the carpet.

HOW TO GET RID OF DUST MITES FROM CARPETS

In the living room, carpet and those of the bedroom mites proliferate. How to get rid of it? With the reliable, always useful, bicarbonate. Eggs and mite droppings lurk in the fibres of our carpets, with serious damage to our health and that of our pets.

Spread the baking soda dry with a brush, let it sit overnight, or at least seven or eight hours. Then remove all residues with the help of a vacuum cleaner. If we also have the steam accessory supplied, we can add a few drops of lavender or lemon essential oil to the water.

Remember that steam cleaning is not recommended, however, for more delicate rugs. Better to use it on more resistant fabrics

HOW TO CLEAN PERSIAN CARPETS

To remove the most obvious stains from the most precious carpets, such as Persian ones, create a creamy paste by mixing white vinegar and coarse salt in equal parts. This batter turns out to be an excellent, completely natural stain remover and not at all harmful to tissues and health.

If the stain is fresh, wet, or oily, use a mixture of baking soda and cornstarch. Wait for the product to absorb the dirt, then brush and vacuum.

HOW TO CLEAN WOOL RUGS

A spring shampoo is what it takes for your wool carpet. Prepare a lotion with the following ingredients:

  • 200 grams of baking soda
  • 50 grams of soap flakes
  • 25 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 15 drops of rosemary essential oil
  • 100 ml of vinegar
  • 500 ml of warm water

Application instructions are quick and easy.

  1. Start by using the classic carpet sweeper on both sides
  2. Mix the baking soda, Marseille soap and essential oils in a bowl until you get a smooth, lump-free mixture
  3. Spread the mixture on the carpet
  4. In a bucket pour hot water and vinegar
  5. Dampen a clean rag, wring it out and wipe it gently over the carpet
  6. Leave on for about an hour and then pass the carpet cleaner again

WASH CARPETS BY HAND OR IN THE WASHING MACHINE: WHEN POSSIBLE

When the rugs are small, as, in the case of bathroom rugs, they can be washed by hand or in the washing machine, using a mild and ecological detergent. You can use a stick of Marseille soap in flakes, poured into a bottle of about 5 litres of water, together with a cup of baking soda and a few drops of perfumed essential oil.

Mix well and voila: your natural carpet detergent is ready to be used in the washing machine. By adding half a glass of vinegar to the fabric softener compartment, your carpets will stay clean, soft and fragrant for longer.

Follow Carillo’s advice for sanitized and always perfect carpets, with little effort and a lot of savings!
