Yelp’s 2022 Home Trend Report Features Tips From Jeremiah Brent

It’s trend forecasting season, meaning it’s time to take a look at what companies predict will come to fruition in our homes over the next year. One such company is Yelp, which released its home trend report with expert tips from interior designer Jeremiah Brent. On the docket for 2022? A move away from home renos and quick updates, and a step toward aesthetics that take time to craft, according to the review site.

Special touches including drapery, backsplashes, and butler’s pantries in dusty blues and textural finishes will be trending. Brent, the star of HGTV’s The Nate & Jeremiah Home Project, says he recently covered a Los Angeles living room in dusty blue plaster walls for a timeless color moment.

People will also gravitate toward raw materials incorporated into a midcentury modern look. Brent suggests using cane to easily warm up a space—whether it’s through a vintage find or involves replacing the fabric on a chair with cane material. Other hot trends include bold wallpapers, reclaimed and raw materials, and bold accents (think: black and white tiles as flooring for an outdoor patio).

Lifestyle trends and design styles will also be emphasized. Along with increased support of local artisans, people will engage in a lagom lifestyle—a Swedish term meaning “in moderation” or “just the right amount.” The idea is to create more with less, according to the report. Japandi design, which is also on the rise, follows a similar idea. The form of organic minimalism “can be implemented throughout an entire space or with the simple addition of a piece or two,” Brent says. “Try starting small with a textural side table or vase.”
